Route 15 southbound overnight lane closure this week for priority repairs to I-80 Bridges over Route 15 in Wharton
Overnight work is expected to take one week
(Trenton) – The left lane on Route 15 southbound is scheduled to be closed overnight this week to continue priority repairs to the I-80 Bridges over Route 15 in Wharton, Morris County.
Beginning at 10 p.m. tonight, Monday, April 28 until 5 a.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, April 29, and continuing nightly through Friday, May 2 at the same time, the left lane on Route 15 southbound is scheduled to be closed before the I-80 Bridges over Route 15 to repair bridge joints and concrete spalling. One lane will be maintained overnight.
In addition, the repairs that began on April 16 requiring Route 15 northbound traffic to be shifted before the I-80 Bridges over Route 15 are continuing this week during the same time. All lanes will be maintained. Motorists are advised to use caution and slow down through the work zone. Work on both sides of Route 15 under the bridge is expected to be completed this week, weather permitting.
The I-80 Bridges over Route 15 are safe. The deterioration of the concrete cover on the bridge piers is the result of natural bridge aging and not related to ongoing I-80 sinkhole repairs. The work is being done now while repairs are being made to I-80 to ensure future closures on I-80 are not necessary.
NJDOT has created an I-80 project web page to keep the public informed about the progress of repairs. Information about detours, alternate routes, and other options to minimize traffic congestion in the area can also be found on the web page.
A new I-80 travel time page has been added to www.511NJ.org and has current travel times on the detour routes and alternate routes.
The precise timing of work is subject to change due to weather and other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information websitewww.511nj.org for construction updates and real-time travel information.
