I80 WB Overnight Lane Closure

I-80 westbound overnight lane closures this week to reopen all westbound lanes this weekend in Wharton, Morris County

A single lane on I-80 westbound will be maintained overnight


(Trenton) – All three lanes on I-80 westbound are expected to reopen this weekend, 11 days ahead of schedule in Wharton, Morris County. The center and right lanes reopened on May 30.


In order to reopen the left lane this weekend and restore all lanes on I-80 westbound, one of the two lanes currently open is scheduled to be closed overnight for the next three nights – tonight, Tuesday, and Wednesday night. 


Beginning at 10 p.m. tonight, Monday, June 9 until 6 a.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, June 10, and continuing Tuesday, June 10, Wednesday, June 11, Thursday, June 12 at the same time, one of the two open lanes on I-80 westbound is scheduled to be closed before Exit 34B/Jefferson/Sparta. At least one lane will be maintained overnight. The closure is necessary to remove construction barrier and repave the left lane and part of the median.


On Friday night, June 13, I-80 westbound is scheduled to be closed and detoured for final paving and restriping. All lanes are expected to reopen on Saturday, June 14, weather permitting. NJDOT will provide more information in advance of the closure.


The speed limit on I-80 westbound remains 45 mph through the work zone. Motorists are reminded this is an active work zone and are advised to SLOW DOWN and use caution.


I-80 Eastbound

Two lanes on I-80 eastbound reopened May 21, and the detour utilizing Exit 34 was removed. All lanes on I-80 eastbound are on schedule to reopen by June 25. Crews will continue working 24 hours a day until repairs are completed, and the highway is fully reopened. NJDOT will continue to look for any avenues to pick up time, if possible.


The speed limit on I-80 eastbound remains 40 mph through the work zone. Motorists are reminded this is an active work zone and are advised to SLOW DOWN and use caution.


NJDOT has created an I-80 project web page to keep the public informed about the progress of repairs. Information about alternate routes and other options to minimize traffic congestion in the area can also be found on the web page.


An I-80 travel time page has been added to www.511NJ.org and has current travel times on the alternate routes.
