2nd Annual Window Painting Contest

Please help us spread the word about our 2nd annual Window Painting Contest scheduled for Saturday, September 21st open to all Jefferson Township residents ages6 through adult.

Ready, Set, Paint a Library Window!

Last summer, the Jefferson Arts Committee (JAC) launched the first-ever Window Painting Contest in Jefferson Township for its students.  The event generated a lot of interest; and surprisingly, adults, teachers, and parents indicated that they wanted to be able to create their own teams in a separate group competition.  And the JAC agreed!  Therefore, a date has been set for Saturday, September 21 for the Jefferson Arts Committee’s second Window Painting Contest that will be open to all Jefferson Township students who are 6 to 17 years old.  New this year, adults 18+ can participate as well!

  • Choose between a Halloween and/or a Thanksgiving theme.

  • The front library windows will be used for the competition, and teams will be assigned a window measuring window measuring 45” wide by 41” long.

  • There will be three separate groups: one for 6- to 11-year-old students, and another for 12 to 17 year old students -- whether they attend in district, out of district, or are homeschooled.  The other group will be for adults 18+. Each age group will be judged separately.

  • Student and adult teams have the option to be a 1- 2- or 4-person team – but students and adults will be separated.  Student teams can include different aged students within the established age brackets, and any individual students wishing to participate will be assigned to a registered team.  We can find a teammate for any individual student who is interested.

  • All teams will be required to register with the JAC and submit a design/sketch using the contest’s theme(s) to be approved by the JAC

  • Teams will be supervised by JAC members or approved adult volunteers

  • Water-based acrylic paint in red, white, green, yellow, blue, black, magenta, turquoise, brown, orange, peach, and violet (participants can have fun mixing these basic colors to create others!), brushes, painters’ tape, and drop cloths, etc. will be provided by the JAC.

  • Participants might want to bring some of their own thin-tip paint brushes, their own coverups to protect their clothing, and perhaps some plastic gloves.  A small stepstool might be a good idea as well.

  • All participants will be required to clean up their work area on the day of the event and return in the future to assist with removing the paint from their respective windows after the voting and awards.

  • The community will be asked to vote for the winners of each student and adult team at the library for their painted window canvases in pre-determined categories, and prizes will be awarded accordingly on another date.

  • There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes for each of the three groups at a future library ceremony.

Anyone interested should email Linda Santangelo at artscommittee@jeffersonarts.org with their name, address, phone number and email address or call 973-697-3828 to register if you don’t have access to email.  Parents/guardians may email/call on behalf of their children if they prefer.  To be sure there will be enough supplies, registrations will be accepted until September 9th.

Donations to help cover expenses will gratefully be accepted and can be mailed to Jefferson Arts Committee, Window Decorating Contest, PO Box 2604, Oak Ridge, NJ 07438.  Any business owner wishing to donate any supplies would also be appreciated – call 973-697-3828 to discuss.

There are quite a few “canvases” ready to be painted so gather up some friends and classmates to form those teams and be sure to register right away!
