Artist of the Month Exhibit debuts with William A. Davies
The Jefferson Arts Committee is excited to announce its June Artist of the Month William A. Davies' exhibit and Meet-the-Artist event on Sunday, June 2 from 2 to 4 pm at the Jefferson Township Public Library, 1031 Weldon Road, Oak Ridge, NJ. Admission is free.

Stop by the library to see the beautiful colored pencil, pastel, and watercolor artwork created by Davies of landscape drawings of New England and the Mid-Atlantic states. Davies, a resident of Oak Ridge, NJ with a BA in Art Education and a Master of Arts with a major in Painting and Art History, was a Fine Arts Adjunct at William Paterson University and Bergen Community College and went on to teach art classes at Ridge High School in Basking Ridge for 20 years. He has exhibited his work in numerous group and juried shows including the US Senate Building, and his works have been noted for their atmospheric effects and a strong sense of place.

Davies believes that "... the role of the visual artist is that of a journalist: someone who documents and comments on life experience, the natural world, and the human condition." His aspect of that journalistic task involves drawing and painting places he has been to many times; and he is fascinated by every aspect of the natural environment from its simplicity and complexity to its mystery and magnificence. "In my work, I hope to share these feelings with those who, in their busy everyday lives, just don't have time to stop and look."
Davies will be the first local artist to exhibit in the Jefferson Arts Committee's new Adult Artist of the Month program while its Student Artists of the Month program is on hiatus for the next several months. A new exhibit will be on display each month showcasing the artwork of Nicholas Marino in July, in August with Kristen Andersen, in September with Irene Spratt, and in October by Richard Rossback.
So visit the Jefferson Township Public Library and travel for a little while through New England and the eastern seaboard through Davies' art on Sunday, June 2. The exhibit will be available for viewing through June 21.
