“Our native plant sale is designed to make it easier for people to choose plants that work with nature, not against it,” said Lake Hopatcong Foundation Board Chair Marty Kane. “Each year, we aim to offer an interesting mix of species that support pollinators and fit a variety of garden conditions. Plus, they really are a lot of fun to grow!”

Native plants are species that naturally occur in a region and are well adapted to local conditions. Because of this, they typically require less water, fertilizer, and maintenance once established. They also support local wildlife by providing food and habitat for birds, bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, which play an essential role in maintaining healthy ecosystems. In the right settings, native plants can also help stabilize soil and absorb stormwater, supporting the health of nearby waterways.

“Planting native species is a practical step people can take to support the health of Lake Hopatcong and the surrounding watershed,” said Communications Director Holly Odgers. “It’s a simple way to contribute to cleaner water, stronger habitats, and a more resilient local environment.”

Orders are limited, and availability may vary, so early participation is encouraged. For more information and to place an order, visit lhfplantsale.givesmart.com.
