New Jersey American Water and Mayor Galate Team Up to Support Hopatcong Animals

The Hopatcong Pound Project receives $1,000 donation through New Jersey American Water’s “Mayor's Charity of Choice” raffle

CAMDEN, N.J. – JULY 22, 2026 – New Jersey American Water donated $1,000 to the Hopatcong Pound Project, a nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing and caring for cats in the Hopatcong community, including feral, unadoptable and FIV-positive cats that many shelters are unable to take in.

The Hopatcong Pound Project was selected as the beneficiary of this donation through New Jersey American Water's "Mayor's Charity of Choice" contest at the New Jersey Conference of Mayors, where Hopatcong Mayor Marie Galate won a raffle giving her the chance to choose a local nonprofit to receive $1,000.
