Running club snowshoes through part of the Highlands Trail

JEFFERSON – On a sunny but cold Saturday in February a dozen members of the Salt Shakers Running Club strapped on snowshoes and continued the Highlands Challenge, a series of trail runs, this time snowshoeing, along parts of the Highlands Trail.
According to club president and founder Rob Davidson, the challenge is a way to connect club members to the trail and to bring awareness to the trail.
Originally billed as a 9-mile run through Mahlon Dickerson Reservation to Lake Hopatcong, February’s event had to be altered due to deep snow and treacherous conditions, ultimately shortened to a 3.5-mile snowshoe hike.
“It was a great day to be on the trail,” said Davidson after completing the trek.
The group’s next Highlands Challenge is scheduled for Saturday, March 21 at 11 am, site to be determined.
