Last year, 105.5 WDHA—a rock FM station based in Cedar Knolls—held several "Shake the Lake" events that incorporated Bridge Marina and a group of lakeside restaurants, all in an effort to drive some attention to New Jersey's largest lake. This year, the station met with business owners of all types to try to expand that effort.
wdha_promotion_-_main"We want to brand Lake Hopatcong to be at the top of people's minds when they think of where they want to go in 2011," said Amy Wilpert, an account executive with WDHA. "We need to make Lake Hopatcong the place to visit."
With that in mind, the station is trying to enlist several dozen businesses to be part of summer-long promotions on the station. Those promotions would include commercials on the site, but also station appearances at venues all around Lake Hopatcong.
At an event held on Monday at Pavinci Italian Grill in Hopatcong, a group of business owners provided feedback and gave suggestions for ways to draw people into the Lake Hopatcong area for the summer season, encouraging the station to make an appearance during the annual Fourth of July fireworks display, or to hold scavenger hunts for listeners that would take them around the lake.  More "Shake the Lake" boat tours (aquatic pub crawls) might be in the works, too. "You've got to focus on making it fun," said Kathleen Courter of RE/MAX in Mt. Arlington. "And remind people that they have this gorgeous lake here."
