Heavy rain over the weekend and through the early part of the week caused Lake Hopatcong's water level to rise more than five inches, helping to bring it closer to normal for this time of year. The lake remains about 1.5 feet below the 9-foot height at the dam, but more rain is in the forecast for later in the week, bringing some hope that water levels could reach more useful levels in time for the summer boating season. The water level issue was a top concern at the Lake Hopatcong Commission meeting earlier this month, where residents from throughout the state voiced concerns about when and how much outflow should be allowed downstream from the dam at Hopatcong State Park.
