Lake Hopatcong trout stocking postponed until late April

JEFFERSON – The Knee Deep Club announced late Friday night the need to postpone the annual trout-stocking event at Lake Hopatcong.
“Due to current conditions on Lake Hopatcong we would not be able to stock trout on March, 29. Not stocking on March 29 would impact the trout contest planned for April 6,” read a statement issued from club trustee Rich Everett. “We are moving the trout stocking date and the trout contest date to ensure that the ice conditions will have improved so we can fish Lake Hopatcong,” the statement continued.
The trout stocking will take place on Saturday, April 26. The trout contest will be held Saturday, May 4. It is the same day the club has scheduled the annual pickerel contest. These will be two separate contests, said the statement. Participants will be able to enter one or both.
The club has added a walleye contest to its calendar, scheduled for May 17 and 18. According to the statement, “lake conditions are excellent for walleye fishing in May.”
All other scheduled Knee Deep Club fishing contests will happen as planned.
