Hopatcong Days Going Strong

The revving of engines, the laughter of children, and the melodic "Leaving on a Jet Plane" all resonated through Modick Park on Saturday morning as hundreds of Hopatcong residents enjoyed the start of Hopatcong Days and Emergency Services Days in the borough.
The two-day event—postponed a week due to forecasted storms on July 10—features an array of activities for families, including a craft fair, antique car show, rides, magician shows, pony rides, baking contest, face painting, a dunk tank, live music, emergency services demonstrations, and more. Saturday's festivities were kicked off by a parade that ran from St. Jude's Church to Modick Park, and events, including a tribute to the town's soldiers and their families and the 14th annual soapbox derby, commenced from there.
Saturday night events include a teen youth group service at 5:30 p.m. in the Maxim Glen Gazebo, and live music by JPT in Modick Park at 7:30 p.m.
On Sunday, a non-denominational church service in the park is scheduled for 10 a.m. and will be led by local church leaders. A series of softball games will kick off at Senior Field at 2 p.m., featuring Police Explorers vs. Firemen, Boy Scouts vs. Girl Scouts, and the Little League vs. the Ambulance Squad.
