The Jefferson House on Nolan's Point, hosted a special evening program of the Lake Hopatcong Historical Society on Thursday July 19. Well over 200 guests attended this festive, fun-filled evening. It was a chance to enjoy cocktails, mingle, meet old friends, dine, win prizes and best of all see Martin Kane's fascinating presentation: "Hidden Treasures of Lake Hopatcong"  "This is the best attended program that we hold all year" said Kane, president of the Lake Hopatcong Historical Society and curator of the Lake Hopatcong Historical Museum in Landing.

Special guest, Jess Murphy of the Lake Hopatcong Foundation, spoke before dinner about the work of the foundation and the various initiatives that have been undertaken to improve and preserve the lake.

Kane's talk,  The "Hidden Treasures of Lake Hopatcong" featured unique areas on the lake that can all be visited today. This "lake of many coves" has dozens of secret sites that the average boater or hiker may not know about. From "Little Venice" and the Air Castles near Raccoon Island, to the Benedict Lagoon near Brady Bridge, from the Roland-May Eves Preserve near Northwood, to the Floating Islands in Landing, there are literally dozens of places to discover, all rich in their own unique history.

Upcoming programs will be "Welcome Back, Lotta Crabtree" on September 15 at the Growing Stage (the Palace Theatre) in Netcong, and "Choose your Hotel at Lake Hopatcong", on Saturday November 24 at the Arlington in Mt. Arlington. Visit the Lake Hopatcong Historical Museum's website for more information and reservations.
