Then and Now: Smitty’s

Long known as Smitty's, this spot in the Woodport section of the lake has long been a stopping point for boaters and diners alike.  And over time, the shoreline around it has shifted from forested acreage to suburban development. Then: Agustice Smith opened a small general store in the Woodport section of Lake Hopatcong in the 1920s.  Later known as Smitty's Lakeview Tavern, it featured dancing every Saturday, fishing, boating, and bathing.  Smith's roadside stand was located on a Woodport shoreline with little development around it.

Now: In 1965, the property was damaged extensively by fire and needed to be rebuilt.  During this period, it became a popular marina as well as tavern.  Today, it is home to Oh! Sullivan's Pub, a restaurant and bar, in addition to a marina.
