Will You Enter The JAC’s Virtual Gingerbread House Contest?
The celebration of the upcoming holiday season will indeed be a unique one this year. Like so many other events being canceled due to the current Covid-19 restrictions in place, the 15th annual Christmas in the Village (CIV) celebration in the Village of Milton area of Jefferson Township has been canceled. However, the annual Gingerbread House contest sponsored each year by the Jefferson Arts Committee (JAC) during this December event will be held virtually this year.
Entry forms, rules, and details will be released soon through social media and will be posted to the JAC’s website and Facebook page. The 2020 theme of the Gingerbread House Contest will be Home for Christmas with five age divisions: 4-5 / 6-8 / 9-12 / 13-16 / 17-adult. Medals will be awarded for first, second, and third places in each category as will Honorable Mention ribbons.
Those wishing to submit a contest entry will submit photo entries of their creations along with an entry form and a nominal fee to cover the cost of prize medals. Entries will be limited, and judging by the JAC will be based on use of different edible materials, creativity, originality, and following the theme.
Due to social distancing guidelines, etc., none of the usual venues hosting activities will be able to participate this year so the physical gingerbread houses cannot be displayed. Therefore, the contest entries will be announced and photos posted on the Jefferson Arts Committee’s website, Facebook page, and other social media. In addition, The Jefferson Chronicle has agreed to be the JAC’s media partner and publish the winning entries in its online news vehicle, and the Jefferson Township Public Library will display the photos of the winning entries.
Hopefully, this virtual contest brings the community some joy and excitement this holiday season still giving both children and adults the opportunity to be creative in designing and decorating their very own gingerbread house for the contest and to enjoy in their own home.
So, start thinking about what you’ll do to create your own unique gingerbread house entry and look for upcoming details to enter!
