Weldon Road Bridge Over Route 15 to Reopen Wednesday Morning
New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the Weldon Road Bridge over Route 15 is scheduled to reopen on Wednesday morning following repairs to the bridge in Jefferson, Morris County.
Beginning at 7 a.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, May 5, NJDOT’s contractor, Mount Construction, is scheduled to reopen the Weldon Road Bridge over Route 15. When the bridge reopens, there will be one lane available in each direction and all ramps to and from Route 15 will be reopened as well. Normally the bridge carries two lanes in each direction.
The Weldon Road Bridge over Route 15 was closed on December 20 because of cracks in two beams. At the time of the bridge closure, Route 15 southbound was closed as well. The left lane on Route 15 southbound was reopened on December 23. The damaged portion of the bridge was removed and all lanes on Route 15 were reopened on March 7. Since then, NJDOT completed repairs to strengthen three beams and monitored the structure to ensure it was safe to reopen. The department will continue to monitor the bridge. A long-term replacement is in the process of being designed. Work is being expedited with the project expected to begin construction in the spring of 2022.
Advanced utility relocation is underway. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for construction updates and real-time travel information.
