News from MtA: Feeding of Waterfowl

Just a reminder that feeding of waterfowl is prohibited. It has been determined that large numbers of waterfowl on and around Lake Hopatcong causes a public health nuisance, including surrounding beach and properties, which is harmful to the health and general welfare of the public.

No person shall feed, cause to be fed or provide food for waterfowl in the Borough of Mt. Arlington on lands either publicly or privately owned.

No person shall create or foster any condition or allow any condition to exist or continue which results in a congregation or congestion of waterfowl or in an accumulation of waterfowl feces or droppings or in damage to flora, fauna or public or private property or in a public health nuisance or in a threat to the health, safety and welfare of the public or the waterfowl.

Any person convicted of a violation of any of the provisions of this ordinance shall be punished by imposition of a fine not to exceed $2,000. For more on this and other Green Initiatives, as well as to read the full ordinance in our code, please visit our Green Infrastructure Committee page:
