Join in our Effort to Support the Girls

HOPATCONG (March 9, 2021) - Our local Hopatcong Woman’s Club is part of a larger organization, the NJSFWC (NJ State Federation of Women’s Clubs), and one of the top state projects for the year is called I Support the Girls. According to the organization’s website, “I Support the Girls collects and distributes essential items, including (new and gently used) bras, underwear, and menstrual hygiene products, allowing women experiencing homelessness, impoverishment, or distress to stand tall with dignity.”

Our club members have participated in donating personally, and in spreading the word throughout the community that items in need are being collected at the Hopatcong Community Center at 47 Hopatchung Road. Open boxes are OK, as long as products are individually wrapped. Also in great demand are small and large toiletry items (like hotel shampoos, soaps, etc.) and cosmetic bags.

According to the official ISTG website, the organization has seen a 35% increase in requests for products due to the Coronavirus pandemic. They have ramped up operations to meet this need, and we can help. Since March 2020, they have collected and distributed over 2,000,000 products, partnered with large and small businesses to distribute their excess inventory, and shipped products around the country to both individuals and organizations. Around the globe they're helping girls and women experiencing homelessness, victims of domestic violence, victims of sex trafficking, refugees and evacuees affected by natural disasters.

A big shout out to two of our members: Pat Beach, who along with being our current President, remains the driving force in our club’s Domestic Violence Prevention and Awareness initiative. Her recent report, submitted on our Club’s activities in this area, is being considered for top honors at the State level and will be announced at the National Convention at the end of August. Pat Hofmann has collected many toiletry items from the Hopatcong Seniors for donation to the cause. Thank you and congratulations to “both Pats” for their contributions!
