Hopatcong Woman’s Club Continues to Assist the Community
Our Annual Spring Fashion Show, which in large part contributes to our award of local scholarships, could not be held this year. However, with the can-do attitude of our members, we have reached our goal of funding those scholarships another way. Members sold 400 tickets for a 50/50 raffle held on December 2nd, securing those scholarships and other contributions to the Hopatcong Community that we hold dear. A big congratulations to the winner Katelin Dora Wester, and a big thanks to all those who helped us achieve our fundraising goal.
Norma Rung, our Chairman of Civic Engagement and Outreach, organizes donations from our club and takes them to the Lyons Veterans Healthcare Center. Our club donated: 242 pairs of men and women’s socks, 15 heavy jackets, sweat pants and tee shirts, 97 assorted toiletries (shampoos, body washes, lotions and creams),
29 women’s cosmetics bags, 15 puzzle books and 75 pens. Members also wrote 25 personal cards of appreciation to veterans for their service. Thank you to all members for bringing these items to our meetings over the past year.
Six of our club’s elves helped to decorate Maxim Glen Park and Borough Hall for the Holidays. A special thank you to Pat Hoferkamp, Lisa Hirschfeld, Lisa Dell’Arena, Betsy Adey, Toby Nelson, and Sharon Kepler for helping Hopatcong shine! Be sure to see the displays at night.
Some of members shopped for gifts for Head Start children and their siblings. Small gifts are wrapped and individually addressed to local families who are part of this program and otherwise might not be in the position to be gifting during the holiday season. Thank you to our shopping elves: Toby Nelson, Sharon Kepler, Betsy Adey, Janet Nadolny, Maureen Lentine, Diane Ottman, Pat Hoferkamp, Cindy Heaton, Barbara Daly, Lisa Hirschfeld, and Robin Dora. Our Club is also providing cookies to the Head Start families, Borough Hall, the Post Office, the Hopatcong Police, and seniors at the Senior Center.
With all the change that 2020 has bestowed on us, we are thankful to he both healthy and helping others during this trying time.
