Marty Kane features Lake Hopatcong Station

MORRIS TWP - Marty Kane, president of the Lake Hopatcong Historic Museum presented a brief history of the Lake Hopatcong Station at the March meeting of the Tri-State Railway Historical Society.
The 103-year-old station, which once boasted three forms of transportation (trains, trollies and the Morris Canal water taxis), is located on Landing Road in Landing and was recently purchased by the Lake Hopatcong Foundation. The non-profit has begun restoration on the stately stone building and will use it as its office space and community center when renovation is complete. Kane is also chairman of the board of The Lake Hopatcong Foundation.
The event, held at the Bickford Theater of the Morris Museum, drew a crowd of more than 70 people and offered historic photos and a lively discussion.
"The fact that it is not being left to deteriorate--it's nice to see," said Kane of the old train station. "It has a home, a family now."
