Local Boat Wins Award

For the second time in three years a boat owned by Lake Hopatcong residents Don Ploetner and Don Ploetner, Jr. has won the prestigious Antique & Classic Boat Society’s Best in Show Preserved award.
The winner this year was the Ploetner’s 1955, 23' Higgins Sport Speedster, “Foxy Lady.”
Each year the Antique & Classic Boat Society holds its annual meeting to conduct the organizations business. For the past few years a boat show has been added to the annual meeting activities. The international show has become one of the premier shows in the world of antique & classic boating. This year the ACBS annual meeting and boat show was held at Table Rock Lake, Missouri. The Lake Hopatcong Chapter of the ACBS is the organization’s first chapter, chartered in 1975.
Two boats belonging to Lake Hopatcong Chapter members Don Ploetner and Don Ploetner, Jr. have won Best in Show first, in 2009 and now again, in 2012.
In 2009, the Ploetner’s 1962 23’ Chris Craft Holiday “Cruisin” won the honor of Best in Show Preserved. The ACBS defines a preserved boat as a boat containing at least 60% of the original deck and topsides material, and must be constructed using the same methods and materials as the original.
