Unlike gasoline, coal, natural gas, and other things that keep us wired and moving, there are a few things out there that can power our lives for free, and the sun is one of them. True, the technology to harness the energy of the sun isn’t without cost, but once you get the infrastructure in place, photovoltaic panels can keep you getting free power for a long time to come. For many, the roof is the best place to install such panels, but any unobstructed south-facing area on your property is likely to do the trick. Lou DiFiore of Mt. Arlington’s Green Initiatives Committee shares photos of such a project on the clubhouse of Bertrand Island’s Lakeshore Village. The solar panels will provide energy for the pool and clubhouse area, DiFiore says.
