Fireworks display lights up the sky over Lake Hopatcong

LAKE HOPATCONG – Boats anchored in the water bobbed up and down, residents and their visitors crammed onto docks and decks, and spectators staked out their real estate on the small beaches dotted along the shoreline of the main lake, all gathered for the annual fireworks display over Lake Hopatcong Sunday night.
For more than sixty years the Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club has sponsored the event, first launching the fireworks from their own docks before moving to barges sent out toward the middle of the lake.
This year’s event, originally schedule for Thursday, July 3, was postponed due to severe weather in the area. Sunday’s weather was clear and warm and provided a perfect canvas for the colorful display. The fireworks were delayed slightly due to a power outage on the barge, said a spectator at the yacht club.
According to the Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club website monetary contributions can be made to help offset the cost of the event by emailing the club directly at fireworks@lhyc.com.
