Crew Team Keeps Raking In Medals

The Mountain Lakes Crew Club’s season is in full swing! Despite chilly days on the water, our athletes have competed in four regattas since the season began in April. Mountain Lakes captured gold, silver and bronze medals at the MLCC Sprints on Lake Hopatcong and the Brickyard Sprints on the Hudson River in Haverstraw, NY, and raced in high winds and rain at the Mercer Lake ISA Sculling Championships in West Windsor, NJ. Most recently, the Mountain Lakes women’s lightweight varsity four plus boat, with Callie Bouzane, Katie Harrs, Amelia Whiting, Kathryn Oram and Hayley Diverio as coxswain, grabbed a bronze medal in the highly competitive Cooper Cup Regatta on May 1st in Pennsauken, NJ.
The Club has been busy off the water as well, hosting its first fund raising event of the spring season at the home of Annella and Roy Dignes in Mountain Lakes on April 8th. ‘A Walk Around Wine Tasting’ featured fine wines from California, South America and Italy. In addition to sampling a variety of wines presented by The Educated Grape of Flemington, NJ, guests participated in a silent auction and cork pull. The Club thanks all who shared in making this event a success for the team!
Students and parents interested in learning more about the sport of rowing and the Club are invited to join the MLCC at Island Beach in Mountain Lakes on May 21st for our annual Rowing Festival. Guests will have the opportunity to take a ride in a boat with members of the team, try their hand at using an “erg” (a training device for rowing), and enjoy a barbeque on the beach. Novices and experienced rowers alike are welcome. It’s a great opportunity to meet the coaches and athletes and see what it takes to row.
