Jefferson Township Fire Company #2’s had its 1st Annual 5K Inferno Run/Walk on Saturday August 21st. The proceeds from the event will benefit the fire company’s own Howard Sufian Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Runners in and around the community and surrounding counties participated in the well-advertised event. Participants in the 5k Inferno race represented towns as far as Ridgewood, Bayonne, New Brunswick, and Mahwah.
With cooperating weather the runners hit the pavement at 9am beginning at     Fireman’s Field in Jefferson. They made their way across Route 181 and then headed down Yacht Club Drive, returning back to Fireman’s Field on the same course. The event had several races designed for every age group and skill level. Local fire, police and EMS personnel, trucks and rescue equipment were on site providing security, direction, and assistance- as well as displaying tools used by each department.
Trophies were awarded to the top three male and female runners. Additional prizes and trophies were awarded in various categories. Goodie bags were given to each participant.
The post race festivities included a live DJ and refreshments. De Sante Bodyworks of Sparta provided a masseuse service for the runners.
Jeremy Scheid, 22, of Sparta took home the trophy for first place in the male category with a time of 16:41.27.
Claudia De Somma, 15, and also from Sparta, placed first in the female category with a winning time of 20:47.79.
