5K raises money for Jefferson Connect
JEFFERSON – In April 2004, township resident Marine 2nd Lt. John T. Wroblewski died from injuries suffered during a shootout while serving in Iraq. The fall of that same year, to honor his memory, the Jefferson Township Junior Women’s Club renamed its annual 5K Run/Walk fundraiser the Wrobo Run.
The fundraising event, held this past Sunday, October 5, is now in its sixteenth year (10 as the Wrobo Run) and attracts runners from all over New Jersey. Almost 230 runners/walkers participated in the event, raising close to $4,000 said co-chair Kim Reid.
The money raised from this year’s event, she said, will be donated to Jefferson Twp. Connect, an organization that raises awareness for mental health issues and suicide prevention.
Attending the event each year is Wroblewski’s parents, John and Shawn, who live in the Oak Ridge section of the township.
“As usual this is an emotional day,” said John noting that Sunday was “a little special” as it commemorated 10 years since his son’s death.
“To see a turnout like this, the police and fire departments and the junior woman’s club—they do such a fantabulous job,” he said.
“God bless Jefferson Township for everything they do for our family. Without their support you just don’t make it through a tragedy like this,” he said.
