On June 26th, John and Kim Kadimik were invited to travel to Algonac, Michigan , site of the original Chris Craft plant and watertower, to attend the Annual Chris Craft Plant Jamboree on the beautiful St. Claire River. This was the 25th anniversary of the event, and included the unveiling of a life-sized statue of Gar Wood and Chris Smith with a speech by Herb Pocklington, a former Chris Craft executive. The show included a 10-mile run up the St. Claire River to The Old Club, the oldest active yacht club in the country, which dates back to 1872.
John and Kim’s 1947 U-22 Chris Craft Sportsman, Mr. White, was chosen as the “Marquee Boat” of the show. The boats were judged personally by Chris Smith, grandson of Chris Craft founder Christopher Columbus Smith, and one of the last remaining members of the Smith family actively involved in the antique boating community.
