Every other Friday, Paul DeRosa answers your motorboat questions—this time, comparing engine options.  If you have a question to submit to Paul, email it to editor@lakehopatcongnews.com.

Q: What are the pros and cons of a 2-stroke vs. 4-stroke engine?  Outboard vs. Inboard?

A: Preference is the biggest factor!  Some people still believe that two strokes are the noisy smelly motors that they remember from their childhoods, NOT TRUE.
In fact Evinrude’s E-TEC outboard series is a two stroke outboard motor that exceeds emissions requirements, it’s quieter then some four strokes and  is European Union certified.  It uses the latest technology to run as quietly and cleanly as possible.
As far as outboard vs. inboard, again it’s preference.  If you‘re looking for my opinion, purchase an inboard—they are usually less expensive to fix and easier to maintain.
