The holidays may have passed, but the New Year hasn't turned yet, and there's still time to make donations in 2009 -- either as a gift to friends or family, or as a final act of charity for the year.  And there are no shortage of worthy nonprofits in the Lake Hopatcong area.

For one thing, the lake's two primary interest groups: the Lake Hopatcong Commission and the Lake Hopatcong Alliance, can receive donations.  Donations to the commission, which would go toward supporting the harvesting program, can be sent to P.O. Box 8515, Landing, NJ, 07850.  Information about donating to the alliance, which represents lake residents and business owners, can be found on the alliance's membership page.

Membership in the Lake Hopatcong Historical Museum is also available -- and in addition to giving money to a worthy organization that collects and preserves historical documents and photographs regarding the Lake Hopatcong community, membership also comes with regular newsletters and a calendar of presentations, most of them made by museum president Marty Kane.  To join, call973-398-2616 or email lhhistory@att.net.

The Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club recently launched a foundation that supports the maintenance and restoration of the historic clubhouse, which celebrates its centennial this year. Donations can be mailed to P.O. Box 8308, Landing, NJ, 07850.

To become a member of the Lake Hopatcong chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society, which is devoted to the preservation, restoration, and enjoyment of old boats on Lake Hopatcong, email membership@lhacbs.org.

Are there other nonprofits around the lake you'd like to draw attention to?  Post them here!  And have a very happy new year.
